DeLourdes Typeface

A serif typeface I designed from scratch in the Didone genre (characterized by hairline serifs and a sharp contrast between thinness and thickness of lines). I began by sketching out the capital O and H on paper, meticulously measuring (with a ruler!) the ratio between thinnest and thickest point. I worked my way through the capitals and onto lowercase characters, finishing with numbers and symbols. Over 150 hours were spent meticulously adjusting and tweaking this bad boy.

This font is named for my grandmother, Helene DeLourdes. Sleek but unfussy, fashionable but unpretentious, and with a nostalgic elegance -- true to its namesake.

Below: A lyric from the 1954 song Misty by Erroll Garner.
